Power Rangers The Movie: Recreating The Characters

On March 24th, 2017, the Power Rangers will hit theaters with their first movie since 1997.  However this will be a recreation of the original series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers which debuted on television in 1992.  It appears they are going with a different vibe than the show with a darker, more serious, superhero movie, as well as getting rid of the traditional costumes for Iron Man inspired armor.  I want to see three things from the movie...

1. Cutting Edge Special Effects

With it being a movie rather than a television show, and with it being 2017, I want to see some groundbreaking special effects.  Probably with the Megazords, their giant robots that they used to fight large creatures.

2. A Scary Villain

Hunger Games alumni Elizabeth Banks is the villain of the film Rita Repulsa and from the brief glimpse of her in the trailer she looks pretty creepy and the way she floated above Trini or Kimberley, I couldn't tell who it was, she looked like Freddy Krueger doing that. So hopefully the threat will be real and scary in this modern retelling.

3. A Good Story

Let's face it, even though the show was good, it was still cheesy and made for kids.  Now not all kids shows were like that, Justice League and Batman the animated series had great storytelling.  With the current superhero boom in movies there are some good and not so good stories.  Hopefully this falls into the former and has great writing.

The Power Rangers are known around the world as one of the longest running kid shows ever.  But that's all its ever been a kids show.  Hopefully this provides a new and awesome look at our childhood.  Power Rangers hits theaters next year!  Thanks for reading!

The Flash: A Brave New World

Hey everybody long time, no see.  I've been really busy.  Let's dive right into things.  At the end of season 2, Barry went back in time to save his mother and 3 months later is living in an alternate reality.  With both of his parents still alive it seems like he is living the dream, but Barry starts to forget the original timeline.  With that, he lets Reverse Flash out of his speed cell and Barry lets Thawne kill his mother.  Now there will be a brave new world, a timeline that is full of possibilities.  Could Laurel, Moira, or Tommy be alive on Arrow?  Does Supergirl join the Arrowverse before the crossover?  Anything could happen, so stay tuned for the rest of the season. The Flash is at 8 PM every Tuesday!

DC Movies The Fans Want To See Part 2

So one of my first blog posts was DC Movies The Fans Want To See, now I will do part 2.  Hopefully you all agree with my points.

Deathstroke could be a good movie to do as an anti-hero movie, rather than a villain movie, with maybe Green Arrow and Batman having cameos.  On the other hand, you could have it as a villain movie, with Green Arrow as the one trying to bring Deathstroke to prison.  If Deathstroke doesn't get his own movie, he could always appear in Suicide Squad 2, I suppose.

Ben Affleck may be playing an older Batman but I doubt even in a few years, will he be old enough to play Bruce Wayne in Batman Beyond.  So time for a second Bruce Wayne, I think Clint Eastwood would be perfect for old man Bruce, but that might be just me.  A Batman Beyond movie would be for a later year after the already announced slate of movies to come out first.  Maybe it can come out in like 2023 or so.  It would be something totally different with it being set in the future.  As a last note, metal dubstep aritst Celldweller should score the film.

With the Titans show getting scrapped and with Geoff Johns saying that, "We have plans for Titans," it is more than likely a Teen Titans movie is coming possibly in place of the Cyborg movie in 2020, or it could be separate all together.  Now going back if Deathstroke for some reason doesn't get his own movie, not in Suicide Squad 2 or if a Green Arrow movie does not get made with Deathstroke, he should definitely be the antagonist in a Teen Titans movie.

Last but not least, we have Crisis On Infinite Earths, which would be a television/movie crossover.  Even if it was the end of certain television series it would be a perfect way to go out.

How To (Make Arrow Great Again)

Okay this one is going to be a little rough, some people might take offense to this but I don't really care.  A brilliant show was skewered by several people who quite frankly need to be fired from their jobs for making a mockery of comic books and several characters need to die and others need to come back.  Here we go...

     1. FIRE MARC GUGGENHEIM AND WENDY MERICLE.  Marc Guggenheim has a horrible track record with movies and television shows including the Green Lantern movie, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.  Wendy Mericle worked on the show Desperate Housewives.  With all the relationship drama on the show, it seems they are more interested in making a soap opera rather than a comic book show.

     2. KILL OFF FELICITY SMOAK.  Ugh, the biggest thorn in the side of the show is without a doubt Felicity, with her incessant whining and generally bringing the mood down.  Now don't get me wrong when she was a recurring character she was fine, but when they brought her in full time in season three she just got so annoying.

     3. BRING BACK LAUREL LANCE AND ROY HARPER.  Laurel Lance aka the Black Canary was killed off last year by Damien Dahrk on the show.  Which shows the writers have little respect for the source material, killing off Black Canary is like killing off Lois Lane or Catwoman, you just don't do it.  Now Nyssa Al Ghul said she destroyed The Pit, but there are other ways of bringing people back.  Roy Harper aka Arsenal is much easier to bring back as he just left the city, or he could get his own spinoff show as one of the Titans (see my earlier blog post Why We Need A Titans Show.)

     4.  CUT OUT SEVERAL CHARACTERS.  The show needs less people in masks, not more.  The show will be introducing Wild Dog and Vigilante this season for Oliver to train as vigilantes as sort of a Dark Knight Returns ending type thing, but the show is way to overcrowded.  Maybe show them in a few episodes but don't have them in every fight.  John Diggle and Thea can be cut way down also.

As always thanks for reading and the next blog posts won't be so rough, I promise.

The Flash Season 3: Another Season, Another Speedster

So today they announced Savitar will be on The Flash season 3 as one of the big bad guys.  That means three seasons with a speedster as a big bad, talk about redundant.  Now don't get me wrong The Flash is still my favorite show on television, but the speedster thing is getting tiresome.  They just cast Mirror Master for the season so why wasn't someone like him named the big bad?   On the positive side, we have two big bads Savitar AND Doctor Alchemy, so it will be slightly different.   Personally instead of giving him a multi-episode arc, I would of made Grodd the big bad for the season or maybe even the rogues just because it would be something totally different from season one and two.  Now I really want to see Abra Kadabra and while it is highly unlikely that we will this season, hopefully he is the big bad next season.  As always thanks for reading and we will see you next time.

What We Want To See In Supergirl Season 2

What are some things the fans want to see in Supergirl season 2.  I will be talking to some people  to see what they want to see in the second season of the show, which moved from CBS to the CW.

     1. BATGIRL OR ORACLE.  Barbara Gordon, and Supergirl have been friends for years.  So how cool would it be to see them team up?  Now in season 1 of Supergirl, in the episode with Master Jailer, Supergirl said "I thought masks were only big in that other city," which is clearly a reference to Gotham since Flash and Green Arrow do not exist on her Earth (for now.)

     2. METROPOLIS.  Superman will be appearing in season 2 of Supergirl (played by Tyler Hoechlin,) and with that we should at least get some view of his city of Metropolis.  Whether it be the Daily Planet where Superman works as Clark Kent or Striker's Island, where Superman's worst criminals are housed.

     3. SUPERBOY.  With the introduction of Cadmus Labs at the end of season 1, it would be perfect to introduce Superboy.  For those of you who don't know Superboy is a young clone of Superman who was made by Cadmus.  It would work as another way to work into a Titans show,(see my earlier blog post) as the Friday night CW show.

HONORABLE MENTIONS.  Introduction of Miss Martian and Diggle and Martian Manhunter meeting.  As always thanks for reading!

Why We Need A Titans Show

So remember how the cable network TNT was supposed to give us a show about Nightwing and the other adult Teen Titans?  Yeah, I do too.  Unfortunately, the network officially scrapped in January.  But what would happen if another network decided to pick it up...let's say the CW?  Here are a few reasons why it would be a good idea.

     1. The network has four superhero shows on four nights a week.  I mean it would only make sense to fill out the week and add a fifth night right?   Since the CW doesn't have programming on Saturday and Sunday they could have Titans on Friday night and fill out their programming for the week.

     2. Some of the team is already on the network.  Wally West/Kid Flash is on the Flash and  Roy Harper/Arsenal was on Arrow and could return to join the Titans presumably.  Artemis will also be joining Arrow this season and could potentially bring a Young Justice type cast to the show.  Also, with Supergirl joining the CW universe, it's exactly what you need to bring the bat family into the universe.  You will get Nightwing, Robin and Oracle out of the deal.  Sounds pretty great right?

     3. There are tons of lesser known characters you can bring in that are Titans members. Kole, Wildebeest, Hot Spot are all  Titans that would probably never make it into a Titans movie and you can do so much more with a television show than a movie.

On that note I'll end this post, what do you think?  Sound off in the comments and thanks for reading!

DC Comics Movies The Fans Want To See

DC already has announced a slate of movies up until 2020, but what comes after that and what are the unannounced movies in 2018 and 2019?  So what do the fans want to see?

Trinity War was an eleven issue comic story that was published in 2013.  It featured the Justice League, Justice League of America and the Justice League Dark in a giant clash to solve the mystery of Pandora's Box.  It would allow for more supernatural elements into the DC Extended Universe and would allow for the introduction of lesser known characters like The Question and Phantom Stranger.
My personal pick would be Lobo, It would be DC's answer to the Deadpool movie from earlier this year.  His extremely violent personality and massive ego would make for an excellent movie.  You could have guest stars like Superman show up in the movie.  The plot could be similar to the Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special fan film even where the Easter Bunny hires Lobo to kidnap Santa Claus, that would make for a killer anti-hero comedy!

Suicide Squad is breaking records for the month of August this year and for good reasons too.  It features a team of villains forced to come together and do something good.  An all star cast led by Will Smith's Deadshot and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn the movie is definitely making waves.  In the sequel Karen Fukuhara expressed interest in exploring Katana's backstory and director David Ayer had expressed interest in making the movie rated R.  I personally would like to see King Shark in the movie, Black Spider maybe and definitely more Captain Boomerang.
Last but not least we have Batman, who hasn't had a solo movie since The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.  He appeared in the movie Dawn of Justice this year, but was a costar with Henry Cavill's Superman and also appeared in Suicide Squad but wasn't more than a cameo.  With Batman villains Harley Quinn, The Joker and Killer Croc appearing in Suicide Squad, there is a good possibility of Batman facing off against Jared Leto's Joker in a solo outing possibly based on an Under the Red Hood type storyline, that's all I've got for this post thanks for reading!

Deadpool And The Rise In Popularity Of R-Rated Superhero Movies

Today I am going to talk briefly about Deadpool and a few other essential movies to the rise in popularity of R-rated comic book movies.  In February 2016, Deadpool took the world by storm presenting a new type of CBM, or Comic Book Movie, with it's crude humor and ultra-violence.  It was something that really hadn't had this level of success before, and had broke several records including, highest selling R-rated movie of all time.  Now how did we get from a movie like that under-performing or being released direct-to-video?  We will briefly look at the history of R-rated CBMs.

It started in 1989 with Dolph Lundgren's Punisher which was the first R-rated superhero movie.  It was released direct-to-video and became a cult classic.  Next came Blade which was the first well received.  It was released into theaters in 1999.  Blade 2 was also pretty well received but in no way was either Blade a money maker.  In 2009, DC Comics got in the R-rated superhero game with Watchmen, directed by 300 director Zack Snyder who eventually went on to direct blockbusters Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for DC.  Unfortunately, Watchmen under performed at the box office leaving DC to delay their R-rated animated movie Batman: The Killing Joke for seven years.  Then in 2013 Kingsman: The Secret Service was released and did fairly well at the box office, but was not enough to blow away records.

So what was it that caused Deadpool to do so well I am not sure if it was the popularity of the character, the interesting trailers, or the fact that it was so well marketed.  We may never know, but it blew away enough records to get a sequel greenlit almost as soon as the movie was released.  Also Wolverine 3 which is part of the X-Men universe as well as Deadpool will be rated R.  Look for Wolverine 3 in theaters 2017 and look for Deadpool 2 in theaters in the next few years.  Thanks for reading!

Joker/Batman Team Up

Okay, so Jared Leto aka the current Joker recently did an interview with BBC Radio 5 to talk about Suicide Squad and said he wants Joker and Batman to team up....um what?  It might be a little confusing to most of us I would assume, I mean I was all confused when I read it on Comicbook.com earlier. Jared said "I know he's not a villain, but it would be so much fun."  Now if you ask me, in the ten to fifteen minutes Jared was in Suicide Squad, he wasn't that good.  Now I know DC Extended Universe fanboys will get all moody about that statement, but that's just me.  In my eyes, Heath Ledger still reigns supreme.  Jack Nicholson played a great gangster Joker, but Jared Leto just seemed like a awkward combination of Ledger and Nicholson and it didn't really work well for him. Jared is a great actor, I just don't like his Joker.

Now back to the matter at hand, a Batman and Joker team up would be crazy!  Why would they team up?  What would stop Joker from betraying Batman in the end?  Could they even function together?  Personally, I don't want them to team up and I am sure a lot of people would agree with me, it just seems wrong.  Now could it work out for the DC Extended Universe movies...sure if the circumstances were right.  Maybe someone murders Harley Quinn, Joker and Batman team up to catch them, then Joker kills the person or people at the end.  For those who haven't seen Suicide Squad *SPOILER* the Joker really loves Harley, he doesn't just use her. *END OF SPOILER*   I don't know, this is all speculation.  It may never happen, just being Jared Leto's pipe dream, or it may be something that could happen in a future movie.

With that I'll be signing off for now, look out for future posts, follow the blog whatever, thanks for looking and see ya next time.

The Magic Of The DCAU

The DCAU, or DC Animated Universe started in 1992 with Batman: The Animated Series.  It was a series that quickly changed the tune of kids television with a much darker tone than most cartoons were known for.  It was more like the comics of the 1970s amd 1980s than the campy Adam West Batman live action series in the 1960s.  It featured a twisted Joker played gloriously by Mark Hamill and there is also Kevin Conroy who is considered to be the voice of Batman himself.  The series introduced a new character known as Harley Quinn who had her live action movie debut last week in Suicide Squad played my Margot Robbie.  The show ran for eighty-five episodes and ended in 1995. Nowadays, you can probably find it listed on websites listed as one of the top ten cartoons of all time.

In 1996,  Batman: The Animated Series returned as The New Batman Adventures as well as the start of Superman: The Animated Series.  Then in 1997, World's Finest happened, the first crossover between the two series.  The crossover was very well received.  Fast forward to 1999,  you get Batman Beyond, or the Batman of the future.  Batman Beyond brought a new level of darkness to the shows and brought in various sci-fi elements to the already established Batman mythology.

Next we have Static Shock,  a story about a teenager with electromagnetic powers.  The series was considerably lighter than Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond if I remember it correctly.  After Static Shock you have the short lived and often forgotten Zeta Project, which was a spin off of Batman Beyond.

Finally we are up to Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, the former consisting of two part episodes focusing mostly on the founding seven members of the Justice League, (Superman, Batman, The Flash, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and, Wonder Woman.)  The latter were mostly single episodes focusing on a march larger and extended team including lesser known characters such as The Question and Huntress.  The show ran for five seasons between the two series. and concluded the DC Animated Universe.

Now that the history is out of the way let;s talk about the magic behind it.  It is the first multi connected television series.  Yes that's right before the Arrow, Flash and pre Legends of Tomorrow crossover of last year.  Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies that started in 2008, the DCAU pretty much stated the interconnected universe for superhero television and movies.  Most of the shows were well received and with the six shows, they ran for over ten years.

What did you think of these shows?  Did you grow up with them or did you watch reruns or on DVD?   Let us know in the comments below or on the Facebook page, thanks for reading!
