POWER RANGERS 2017: A Review

Hey guys, I just got back from the movie about a half an hour ago so I figured I better get started. Basically if you are looking for a straight up action movie, you came to the wrong place.  The movie is very character driven and is pretty slow moving at the beginning.  In this review I will put out my pros and cons of the movie.

PROS: As mentioned above the movie is very character driven.  They take about an hour and a half to set up for the action and making a decent story.  Now if you read my last blog post possibly comparing Power Rangers to the Transformers franchise, you are in luck, maybe too much luck.  There is about twenty minutes in the movie where they actually have their suits on, the rest is all building up the story.  The movie has cracked the formula of a balance of dark and humor.  Marvel has had nine years and there movies are still mostly humor.  DC has had four years and their movies are mostly super dark.  Power Rangers is a good mix of humor and darkness.  Rita Repulsa, the Power Rangers movie villain, reminded me a lot of Enchantress from last year's Suicide Squad from DC, but was a better villain.  Also, the Rangers are from different backgrounds and are from different ethnic backgrounds, which means when they are heroes everybody has someone to look up to.

CONS: As I said in the pros, there isn't much action or fighting.  It can be good with a good story but come on this is Power Rangers there should be a lot more fighting.  When you get a better look at the Rangers costumes towards the end of the movie, it looks like the suits are made of plastic.  Also, the fact that Krispy Kreme was a major plot point was kind of dumb.

Overall, I'm torn, in some ways it was better than I expect and in other ways it let me down.  It was more of a drama then an action movie and hopefully the sequels will be better, (yes there will be sequels five I read.)  Anyways go see it and don't forget to stick around for the mid credits scene! Rating 6.5/10

Will Power Rangers 2017 Be Another Transformers Franchise?

Hi guys, I just can't seem to stay out of here over the last few days.  I thought about this a little last night and am thinking about it more now as I sit here watching the original Teen Titans series.  So what do I mean by another Transformers franchise?  I mean another series with a lot of cool special effects and explosions, but absolutely no heart or plot.  Now sure the Transformers makes tons of money because it appeals to people who like action.  However, I believe they will be forgotten within ten or so years after the series ends.  Now with Power Rangers they need to stick to a few things.

Take risks without forgetting the source material.  Obviously this is a remake of the series and everything looks different.  The suits, villains, Zords, etc. It will more than likely be a more mature and a little bit darker outing than the original kids television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but it should still remember that kids were it's original audience and not do to much to alienate it from that.

The writers need a good plot.  Explosions and special effects can't compensate for a good plot and story.  You need that to keep people interested and wanting more and more than likely if you want them to buy the DVD or Blu Ray, otherwise it will be a one-time viewing.  Nowadays, word travels fast with social media if a movie is good or not.  Now I am not say special effects are bad, you can win awards for things like that and it will get others to watch that normally wouldn't.

Know your limits.  Whether it be the content as mentioned above, or even time limits.  Don't drag it on for almost three hours, Transformers 4 I am looking at you, I think the two hours and four minutes is a pretty good time for a movie.  Don't make a movie to short either, Fantastic 4 (2015) was a mess because the plot was super thin because they didn't give it enough time to flush it out.

Anyways if I don't think of something else to write before then I will be reviewing Power Rangers the movie the day after it comes out, if you like the blog please like the Facebook page and thanks for reading  https://www.facebook.com/superherotalks/

Arrow Is Great Again

Last year during the beginning of season 5 I wrote a post called (How to) Make Arrow Great Again.  It pains me to say, it is great again.  It is back to the former glory of season 1 and 2.  While Felicity may not be dead which was one of my points, she is much more tolerable this season.  Laurel came back for a little bit as Black Siren for a little while (the evil Black Canary) and that leaves for an interesting story line later on.  They introduced the comic book Black Canary (Dinah Drake) who is a metahuman.  Maybe since they love to do romance stories on CW, they will get together as Oliver and Felicity are officially apart now.  Roy Harper aka Arsenal hasn't came back yet but I am sure he will, at least for a few episodes.  The team is still overcrowded and needs to be cut way back.  That is pretty much my only complaint right now except for the Prometheus reveal.  The show has even went back to a more low-scale street crime show for the most part with almost no magic.  Now if it doesn't fall apart in the last few 7 episodes I will be super happy.  It pains me to say I was wrong and I can say I am confident the writers will make up for seasons 3 and 4 if they keep doing what they are doing.  If I don't do another blog post beforehand, the next one will be the Power Rangers movie review, but like I said that's if I don't decide to do another one before haha. Anyway thanks for reading and like our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/superherotalks/ Thanks!

Bring Back Superhero Soundtracks

Guess who is back everybody?  Sorry it took so long to write a new post but I have been kind of busy lately.  I will be trying to write spoiler free reviews after every major superhero movie if I see them in theaters, so starting with Power Rangers on March 24th.  Anyway you are probably wondering what this post is about, it is about bringing back the soundtracks for superhero movies.  Since 2013, there have been two superhero soundtracks released, Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol 1 and Suicide Squad: The Album.  Sure we get the classical score every movie but soundtracks are a rare thing for movies nowadays and with CBMs or Comic Book Movies flooding the market right now, I believe there are eight this year, they could bring back soundtracks for superhero movies and corner the soundtrack part of the charts.  Now I know what you're thinking, why though?  Here are my thoughts.

Music makes people show emotion whether anger or happiness or joy, all emotions can be released through music.  It makes the movie more emotional and possibly more memorable if there are songs you like on it.  Soundtracks also get new songs or older songs that aren't popular anymore on the radio.  Let's face it everyone listens to a radio station or another.  Someone might like a song from a movie and go see the movie because they like the songs on the movie, which probably isn't as often as I am guessing, but I am still sure it happens a lot.

This is a shorter post than originally envisioned, but hopefully it will still get the point across music makes movies more emotional and memorable and can even make them more popular.  Thanks for reading and we will see you soon
